The Spec;
Roast – Dark
Strength – 5
Flavour Notes – Dark Chocolate Notes, with hints of Spice and Cedar (According to the supplier!!)
Asda’s Extra Special range may be more of a mild starter pack for single origin coffees, as following on from our last post on Ethiopian Mocha Limu, this is another initially promising product that fails to leave a lasting impression.
Is this really classed as ‘Premium’?
My Take – The distinctive Vanilla scent of South Indian Coffee, particularly from the Malabar region, is present but once again the pleasing sweetness lacks any strong tones. I would recommend but there are cheaper higher value Single Origins out there such as the Brazil Peaberry which works out cheaper per gram and enormously in taste! The peppery and spice is present but none of the milkiness and twang of a Real Malabar Coffee, even the blends! Also even more bizarre is in the product description it states openly right form the off “The tantalising aroma of rich coffee may not bring India to mind…their unusual flavour..” Strange. They don’t even seem to rate it themselves.
Final Marking;
2/5 – An even more disappointing addition to the Asda’s Extra Special and fails to follow up to Ethiopian Mocha Limu.
